According to an NFL on Campus survey, Aaron Rodgers is the most popular NFL player among Ontario university students.
More than 1,400 Ontario university students on five Southern Ontario campuses were surveyed during the 2012 season. The survey was part of the NFL on Campus interactive tour.
Rodgers (11%) was followed closely by two other record-setting quarterbacks, the Patriots Tom Brady (10%) and the Saints Drew Brees (9%). Lions receiver Calvin Johnson (7.5%)and Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning (7%) rounded out the top five.
Giants quarterback Eli Manning, Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick and Panthers quarterback Cam Newton ranked 6th through 10th in the survey.
Rodgers, the number one ranked passer in NFL history (minimum 1,500 attempts), earned NFL Most Valuable Player honours in 2011. Rodgers also electrified NFL fans when he Became only the fourth QB in NFL history to throw for 300 yards/three TDs in a Super Bowl, taking home game MVP honors for Green Bay’s win over Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XLV.
NFL on Campus will return this fall, with stops already scheduled for seven Canadian university campuses. The program is designed to support Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) football programs and includes throwing challenges, kicking challenges, flag football tournaments, combine recreations, EA Madden stations and athletic department donations.
