The Université Laval Rouge et Or kicked-off its 18th season with the NFL on Campus and a 32-8 victory over the McGill Redmen.
Winning is a trademark at the school. The Rouge et Or are one of Canada’s youngest football programs, yet the school has won a record seven Vanier Cups since 1996. For an in depth history of how this football power was built, read Mark Cardwell’s piece at University Affairs http://www.universityaffairs.ca/laval-s-field-of-dreams.aspx
A passionate fan base is another trademark at Université Laval. The team regularly draws more than 10,000 fans to its games, many of whom participate in a giant tailgate party on site.
Prior to the McGill game these fans got a chance to try to out measure their vertical and broad jump results against those of NFL stars, compete in the bungee run and test their kicking and throwing accuracy.
Over the next eight weeks the NFL on Campus tour will make stops at Université de Sherbrooke, Université de Montreal, Carleton University, the University of Toronto, Western, Guelph, McMaster and York.
