More Campuses, more Football

NFL on Campus, an interactive program designed to support Canadian University football programs, is expanding to include ten schools in six provinces this fall.

Each NFL on Campus visit coincides with an important date on a team’s football schedule (often homecomings or regional rivalries). The visits include interactive NFL-themed experiences for students and fans leading up to and during the game.

During the week leading up to games, students at participating campuses have an opportunity to win prizes, try out the latest Madden NFL game from EA Sports, and participate in programs including NFL on Campus flag football leagues, tournaments and skills competitions (Punt Pass Kick).

The visits also include a $5,000 donation to the intercollegiate football program at each school.

“When you see the NFL involved in the presentation of a university football game, it boosts the credibility of our team and our league,” said Manon Simard, Athletics Director, Université de Montréal. “It also proves that the NFL wants to keep its sport healthy on every level and in different countries. We hope to continue this partnership for years to come.”

On game day, interactive NFL experiences can include authentic NFL Draft Combine tests (measuring vertical and broad jumps against NFL stars), tailgate Bean-Bag toss competitions, a Lambeau Leap photo opportunity, and NFL kick n’ pass, QB Challenge and Bungee Run zones. Cheer squads, student promotion teams and marching bands are also often integrated into the program.

“The addition of NFL on Campus during our ‘Throwback’ week helped us take the excitement to the next level and got many students involved,” said Jennifer Brenning, Athletic Director, Carleton University. “From Madden competitions to supporting intramural football to handing out NFL prizes, the NFL did an exceptional job of engaging our students.”

Now in its fourth year, NFL on Campus will visit campuses in Eastern and Western Canada for the first time in 2014 (Western Canada visits may not include all game day interactive elements).

“We are proud to grow NFL on Campus this season, and help even more Canadian university programs raise their profiles on campus,” said Dan Quinn, Managing Director, NFL Canada. “Celebrating football on campus – from intramural to varsity – helps us grow the sport.”
