Seattle Seahawk Luke Willson interacts with fans via his personal Twitter account @LWillson on a regular basis. On May 7, Willson, who played amateur football with the Ontario Varsity League’s Essex Ravens, participated in a live @NFLCanada Twitter chat with Canadian NFL fans.

Questions posed to the 2013 fifth round draft pick ranged from his favourite home-cooked meal to whether he thinks he can be the starting tight end in Seattle. Here is a recap of the questions posed by fans (and Willson’s responses):

Q: What is your favourite memory of the 2013 NFL Draft other than getting the news from the Seattle organization?

Luke: I spent the draft at my house in LaSalle, Ontario. I had my family members there and some very close friends so being able to share the whole experience with people who had greatly shaped my life is something I will forever cherish.

Q: Who was your favourite childhood team?

Luke: My favourite childhood team was actually the Detroit Lions (LaSalle is very close to the Canada/US Windsor/Detroit border crossing). It was a tough childhood . . . . especially because my Dad and my brother WERE Packers fans. However my whole family are Seahawks fans now!!

Q: Richard Sherman just got a huge contract extension, is he as good in practice as in games?

Luke: @Rsherman_25 is incredible in practice and incredible in games. He is also a tremendous teammate and sets a great example for young players like myself. He deserves it and I’m excited he is going to be with us for the next 4 years.

Q: What will it take to create a new chemistry for the @Seahawks this season at training camp?

Luke: I think that we will continue to build chemistry through hard work on the field and in film study. Working towards a common goal always seems to bring great teams and great individuals together.

Q: Is the Seahawks stadium the loudest stadium you have ever been in?

Luke: Hands down the loudest!

Q: What is your favourite Canadian tradition/home-cooked mean/city?

Luke: I’m half Italian, so when I go home I eat lunch at my Nonna’s (Grandma’s) almost everyday. Everything she makes is my favourite.

Q: Do you feel you have a chance to become the starting tight end this year?

Luke: Zach Miller is our starting TE and he is a tremendous player. I hope to contribute in all sorts of different roles this year.

Q: Who or what convinced you to decline the chance of playing in the majors for baseball (Willson, who played baseball as well as football at Rice University in Texas, was also drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays)?

Luke: I had put so much effort into football and I was so close, I didn’t want to just switch to baseball.

Q: What advice would you have for a Canadian kid trying to get to the NFL?

Luke: Believe in yourself. Even when others might not believe in you.

Q: If you could sum up your first year in the NFL, from draft to Super Bowl Champ, in one tweet?

Luke: A dream come true. #honest #GoHawks #12thman
